Medical Weight Management
Weight management is more than willpower.
Weight is influenced by appetite regulation, metabolic health, hormones, sleep, medications, genetics, life stage, and other factors.
At Intimate Vitality Collective, medical weight management begins with understanding your health, your challenges, and your goals before determining whether medication is appropriate.
Understanding GLP-1 Therapy
GLP-1 is a naturally occurring hormone involved in appetite, digestion, and blood sugar regulation.
Medications that activate GLP-1 receptors can help:
Reduce Hunger
GLP-1 signaling acts on areas of the brain involved in appetite and satiety, helping you feel satisfied with less food.
Increase Fullness
These medications can slow gastric emptying, particularly after treatment begins, which may contribute to feeling full longer.
Improve Blood Sugar Regulation
GLP-1 receptor agonists stimulate insulin release when glucose is elevated and decrease glucagon, helping improve glucose control.
Support Clinically Meaningful Weight Loss
When appropriate, GLP-1 medications can be an effective tool for chronic weight management alongside nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and behavioral changes.
GLP-1 + GIP Therapy
Some medications act on two pathways: GLP-1 and GIP.
GIP is another naturally occurring hormone involved in metabolic and glucose regulation. Dual GLP-1/GIP receptor agonists, such as tirzepatide, activate both pathways.
Like GLP-1 therapy, treatment can reduce appetite, increase satiety, improve glucose regulation, and produce substantial weight loss in appropriate patients.
What’s the difference?
GLP-1
Targets the GLP-1 receptor.
GLP-1 + GIP
Targets both GLP-1 and GIP receptors.
The best option isn’t simply the medication associated with the greatest weight loss. Your medical history, goals, previous treatments, tolerability, access, and clinical needs all matter.
